Lovely day in the park

So yeah, I had a great afternoon in the park, spread out on a blanket with my book and my knitting. It was perfect. Why have I not been doing this more often? We've spent a fair amount of time in the park this summer, but always by the lake so my husband can go fishing. (Yes, there is fishing here in Brooklyn.) That's all very nice but there isn't much grass near the lake so I always sit on this tiny portable chair and, well, spreading out on the grass is completely different.

I finally finished the arms of the lacy hooded tunic, and am now onto the hood. And I'm on p259 of Deathly Hallows.

Early morning drive into Manhattan

Mayhem in Manhattan

It was a mess in the city this morning with most subways down after heavy storms and rain overnight. My husband left at around 7am, only to return soaking wet, announcing that our local subways were not working. He changed, got the car from the lot, and changed again, by which time it had stopped raining - just in time for me to make it to the car perfectly dry!

We left at around 7.45am and I was fully expecting tons of traffic and a long ride in, but amazingly it was pretty clear and I was at my office in just over half an hour - more quickly than my usual commute!!!

That was pretty awesome as most people didn't get in until lunchtime...

It was pretty surreal driving up 6th Ave seeing the crowds of people clustered around bus stops and subway stations trying to hail non-existent cabs. Times like this make me glad we have a car. Did I mention it was 95F today?!
