Even my husband commented the other day that I haven't been knitting as much lately. This has to change! Whether it can remains to be seen, but after a week's delay where I was just kind of pondering what to do, I finally swatched my lovely koigu cashmere last night to try and come to a decision about what pattern to use.
The four different colorways actually go together better than I was expecting although of course it will look different with longer rows. At any rate, I have cast on for the
Koigu Baby Set in the 6-9 month size and we will see how it looks. So far so good, although I have only done a few rows. In the swatch I did two rows of each color, but after casting on for real, I am trying doing one row of each color so the yarn can be carried up both sides of each piece. Unfortunately, I didn't think this through enough because the order of colors ends up being A B C D B A D C because of where the yarn ends up. I'm not sure if this will matter or not. Actually, now that I think about it even further, you could always knit every 4th row in the same direction twice and I think that will work.... I've only done six rows so I may try that.
I'm still not entirely convinced that I shouldn't be knitting another tomten jacket instead, but, much as I love the tomten jacket and will probably eventually knit it a few more times at least, I would really rather knit a different pattern right now. We'll see how it goes.
I've also been trying to step up progress on the
barn raising quilt as I realized that even if I knit a square a day, I still won't be finished by the baby's due date. That's ok, the baby doesn't need the blanket from day one, but still, it was a bit of a sobering realization!
