I am interrupting my own waxing lyrical about my now sadly passed vacation to note, for any iPhone users out there, some cool new features with the latest software update (iPhone Software Update 1.1.3 available via iTunes 7.5).
The first and definitely most useful as well as cool thing is that your iPhone can now automatically figure out where you are (I guess it uses the same triangulation techniques that the authorities on crime shows and I'm assuming in real life use to locate cell phones - there is no hidden GPS). It does this via the Maps application, which will make it so much easier to get directions from where you are, and also to find nearby things. It managed to pinpoint my location with alarming accuracy - almost down to the house! (I know that because google satellite maps are also integrated.)
Also, you can finally customize your home screen, and add "Web Clips" to your home screen to link directly to websites you use frequently. In addition to their Typepad for iPhone web app (which I hadn't looked at before but looks great except you can't upload photos and I can't figure out how to scroll in the edit screen), Typepad has also created a Typepad icon that will appear in the home screen instead of a screenshot, and they tell you how to make one for your own site too.
So, if you want to add Beautiful Things to your iPhone home page, you too will get an icon instead of a screenshot! This will be very useful for my legions of iPhone readers I'm sure...! Very few other sites have this feature yet... so far I've added Remember the Milk and Fandango (Fandango has a great iPhone interface by the way) and neither of them do. In fact, even the Apple website doesn't have this feature!!!!
Anyway, those are the two biggies, but it's also nice that you can now text message several people in one message, and you can rent movies on iTunes and direct on your iPhone (handy for when you're stuck at the airport and your flight has been delayed).
Edited to add: hey, duh! Of course, Ravelry has the cool new iPhone icon!
