I'm not a huge to-do list junkie, but I have tried various written and electronic systems over the years and none of them have stuck. Mostly I end up doing written lists or using the ever popular "list in one's head" method!
Recently, an on-line to-do list application caught my eye on the apple website and lately I've been feeling the need for a better method, so today I tried remember the milk and so far, it's pretty cool!
It's a web-based application but it does have an iphone interface. Unfortunately, because it's web-based, it means that it won't work on the subway, but you can e-mail yourself tasks, or text yourself tasks via twitter so that should at least help with things I might think of on the subway. There is even an OSX dashboard widget although it looks pretty primitive, as well as various other services.
We'll see if this sticks, but already it's helped me get various things done today. Sometimes it's easier to get motivated to do something if you have a list in front of you, and the interface is pretty easy to get comfortable with. Besides, who can resist the cute name and logo?!
