As late as Sunday morning I was worried that I would not be returning from my vacation sufficiently rested and rejuvenated. But our stay by the lake was more restful than I imagined and when we got home that night I felt pretty good.
We stayed at my husband's aunt and uncle's house by the lake. This isn't their vacation home, it's their home, but they were away for the weekend and it was the first time I really appreciated the view from the house and deck at various times of the day:
7.19am
10.02am
2.38pm
4.47pm
I went out on the boat with my husband, which I haven't done in a while, and discovered to my delight that I can knit on the boat without getting seasick! It's just a small rowboat but I am very prone to motion sickness so I was really happy about that.
I also worked a little on my address book/contacts, napped, grilled and knit some more. All in all, it was very peaceful, even when cousins, nephews and nieces descended on us yesterday!
I started swatching for my Habu scarf and, well, I'm not entirely sure I "did it right" because it looks kind of different to what I've seen online. My stockinette had alternating wide and narrow loops and perhaps I felted too much? Other photos I've seen look more like regular knitting that is just a bit fuzzy. I may experiment a bit with different needles but any advice would be appreciated. I know there isn't really a right or wrong way and I still liked the way it came out, I'm just not sure it's THE way I want it to come out and I'd like to feel I have a bit more control over it.
I definitely wish I could photograph all my projects on the deck by the lake though!
this is how mine looks too. a wide loop followed by a narrow loop. looks sort of like ribbing but isn't ribbing. i think it's just what happens when working on large needles with a fine yarn.
your swatch looks lovely and you're on the right track. no worries.

I am so glad that you did your swatch because I just jumped right in and started the scarf...right after the bit in the pattern that said not too worry if the gauge wasn't quite right!I am only going to felt mine really lightly so fingers crossed that it turns out half as lovely as yours.Although having skipped the swatch it would serve me right if it doesn't!
