Am I crazy to pick this as my first sweater? It's loose fitting, so that should make it easy, but the mesh stitch is... challenging. I had to rip out mistakes even in the swatch! Plus Jenny and Nicole were just talking on Stash and Burn about how hard Vogue Knitting patterns are.
I cast on this weekend when we went back to Montauk for a little two night getaway. I think I've finally mastered the stitch but not until I executed two major ripping backs. I did at least manage to figure out that the best way to rip back lace is to stop one row short of where you want to be, then rip back one stitch at a time, putting the stitches back on the needle as you go. Maybe that was obvious to everyone else but it was a light bulb for me!
The stitch isn't that hard once you get the hang of it, it just requires some concentration to begin with. Apparently sitting by the pool chatting with friends was too distracting as I only discovered later that I'd made a fatal error about 20 rows back - argh!
Anyway, I think I'm on a roll now. I knit on the way home and some more last night so now I'm about half way through the first 16".
